Lisa's Coasters

Recently, my friend Lisa requested some coasters as for her father's birthday. She new what she wanted - green coasters with a light grey salmon.

I started them last week, just before my basement flooded and my studio became unusable. (It was a sad day, and I've been in a funk ever since.)

So I moved the small kiln up to the dining room to finish them up.

To make these, I put a thin layer of grey frit on top of the green coasters for the initial firing. Then I sandblasted away the non-fish part.

Before refiring, I had to add some additional frit to make the fish stand out a little more.

Below are some other coasters that I made for Lisa around the holidays.

Diamonds

I created two pieces last week to use some diamond shapes that I had left over from previous pieces.

I arranged the diamonds on top of an opaque light peach cream base.

With the Green Diamond piece, I used a shallow bowl mold. The mold is actually 12" square and the piece is 9" square, so this is a very shallow bowl.

I like it. It's a little retro.

With the blue diamonds, I arranged them into a flower shape.

With this, I used the ruffle plate mold because with the flower it has a nice girly feel.

One of my favorite things about glass is translucence. So, I don't generally go all opaque.

But I do like these pieces.
